CARMEN MOLINA … “THE SOCIAL BUTTERFLY”

Carmen Molina was born on June 4th, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
At the age of 13, she begins to take Acting Lessons at Bellas Artes (Dominican Republic). By the time she was 17, she was a Professional Actress. Carmen also studied Social Comunication at Universidad Católica de Santo Domingo.

Having studied in Santo Domingo, with Dominican Directors and Filmmakers, helped her begin working on Television. But her desire to grow at an International level, made her decide to leave her country, Dominican Republic. And as many immigrants, she came to U.S.A., to fulfill her dream.

Once Carmen arrived to the United States, she tried to approach her line of work, Acting/Theater. But destiny had a different plan for her.

One day, while being at a Mexican Restaurant, the owner approached her, and told her he loved her charisma. He then asked her if she would work for him. Carmen liked the idea, since she loves to talk and interact with people. This was like having her own little audience, even though Acting will always be her true passion. Carmen worked at this restaurant, for over 4 years, where her boss nicknamed her “Social Butterfly”.

One day, her boss decided to sell the restaurant, and trying to get closer to her roots, Carmen starts working at Cuban Restaurants for over 5 years, which helped improve her knowledge of Cuban and Caribbean food.

With more than 10 years of experience as a waitress and Restaurant Manager, and all the good and bad things she went through, she was motivated to want to have her own restaurant. Suddenly, God gives her the great surprise to find out that “Havana South” was up for sale. So she thought: “This is a great opportunity to grow and prove to myself, it’s time to have my own!!!”

And, along with her right-hand man, Agustín Bohórquez (Virgilio), now Chef y Kitchen Manager at “Havana South”, she went on this new adventure, which has been a successful experience. Specially, and given the fact, they could help and value their employees, as they never were. “We are bosses, but we are “all” human beings”.

“Life’s twists gave us strength and helped us grow. This business experience has taught me, we must always be at peace and harmony with others, keep a positive mind, forget the negative, and that way, overcome all obstacles we face in life”.

Now that she has her own place, Carmen Molina can count on professionals who have proved from the beginning, that not only are they willing to share their talents, but they are also unconditional friends. As is “Corinne Oviedo”, a great Artist/Performer from the Caribbean, born in Miami, Fl., with Dominican parents, and also a descendant from Cuba, Puerto Rico and Spain, and who presents her International Show, every month, at “Havana South”.

There are many people Carmen would like to thank, such as: James Carl Sweet, who she’s known for years, and considers to be her earth angel, someone who, though far away, has always given her support, and has been her inspiration to grow spiritually and professionally.

She would also like to thank her mom: Carmen Sánchez “La Doña” and her sister, Carmen Elsa Molina, for their prayers, so that her family and “Havana South” always be blessed!!!

CARMEN MOLINA … “LA MARIPOSA SOCIAL”

Carmen Molina nació un 4 de Junio, en Santo Domingo, República Dominicana. Desde los 13 años, ingresa a Bellas Artes para estudiar Actuación y Teatro.
Ya a los 17 años, era Actriz Profesional.
Carmen también estudió Comunicación Social en La Universidad Católica de Santo Domingo.

El haber estudiado en Santo Domingo, con Directores y Cineastas Dominicanos, le ayudó a entrar a trabajar en la Televisión.
Pero su deseo de crecer a nivel Internacional, le hizo decidir dejar su país natal, República Dominicana.
Y así como muchos inmigrantes, llega a los Estados Unidos, para lograr su sueño.

Al llegar a los Estados Unidos, buscó un acercamiento en su área de trabajo, el Teatro. Pero el destino le tenía otro camino.

Un día, estando en un Restaurante Mexicano, el dueño se le acercó y le dijo le encantaba su carisma. Por esto, le propuso trabajara con él. A Carmen le gusto la idea, ya que que le encanta hablar e interactuar con la gente.

Esta oportunidad era como tener su pequeño público, aunque, el Teatro siempre será su verdadera pasión. Carmen trabajó por más de 4 años, en dicho restaurante, y su jefe le puso el apodo de “Social Butterfly” (“Mariposa Social”).

LLegó un día en que su jefe decide vender el restaurante, y buscando algo cerca de sus raíces, Carmen comienza a trabajar en restaurantes Cubanos, por más de 5 años, lo cual le ayudó a perfeccionarse en la comida Cubana y Caribeña.

El tener más de 10 años de experiencia como mesera y Manager de otros restaurantes, y todas las buenas y malas experiencias vividas, le motivaron a querer tener su propio restaurante.
Y es así, como Dios le da la gran sorpresa de enterarse que “Havana South” estaba a la venta y pensó: “Esta es mi gran oportunidad para crecer y demostrarme a mí misma que es tiempo de tener lo mío!!!”

Y así, junto a su mano derecha, Agustín Bohórquez (Virgilio), ahora Chef y Kitchen Manager de “Havana South”, se lanzó a esta nueva aventura, la cual ha sido una experiencia satisfactoria. Sobre todo, al poder ayudar y valorar a sus empleados, como nunca lo fueron ellos.
“Somos jefes, pero “todos” somos seres humanos”.
“Las vicisitudes de la vida, nos dieron fuerzas y esto nos ayudó a crecer. Esta experiencia en el ámbito del Negocio, me ha demostrado que siempre se debe estar en paz y armonía con los demás, manteniendo una mente positiva, olvidando lo negativo, y así poder vencer todos los obstáculos que se nos presentan en la vida.”

Al tener su propio espacio, Carmen Molina cuenta con el apoyo de personas profesionales, que le han demostrado, desde un principio, que aparte de compartir sus talentos, son también, amigos incondicionales. Tal es el caso de la gran Artista Caribeña “Corinne Oviedo”, nacida en Miami, FL., hija de padres Dominicanos, con descendencia Cubana, Puertorriqueña y Española, y quien presenta su Show Internacional, cada més, en “Havana South”.

Hay muchas personas a las que Carmen quiere dar las gracias, como lo son: James Carl Sweet, a quien ella considera ser su ángel terrenal, un ser al que conoce por muchos años, y quien, a pesar de la distancia, siempre le ha dado su apoyo, y ha sido su inspiración para crecer espiritual y profesionalmente.

También le agradece a su madre: Carmen Sánchez “La Doña” y
a su Hermana Carmen Elsa Molina, por sus oraciones, para que cada día, Dios le siga bendiciendo a su familia y a “Havana South”!!!
